SHARING IS CARING

Turn Down Time & Lost Time Into Productive Time With Your Smartphone

It never ceases to amaze me how much I can do on my smartphone these days. It truly has gone from a mobile calling device to a mini-computer that I carry around with me all day. And I’m sure so do you. Why not take advantage of that fact and turn little pockets of otherwise wasted time into productive time.

Take the time you spend standing in line at the grocery store or the post office for example. Instead of standing around waiting for your turn, use that time to check your email, edit a document, or interact with potential clients on social media.

What you do on your phone during those little pockets of time is up to you. Think of both work tasks and things like paying bills, emailing a friend, and sharing photos from that latest family outing on Facebook. If you are in business for yourself, you can also do things like sharing your latest blog post on social media, interacting with prospects on Facebook and the likes.

The key to making the most of using your smartphone to turn downtime into productive time is to (a) figure out what you can do on your phone instead of being stuck behind your computer and (b) recognize those little pockets of downtime.

If you find yourself doing a lot of typing on your phone, writing emails, articles, working on the latest work report, etc., consider getting a blue tooth-enabled little keyboard. Keep it in the car, in your purse, or in your briefcase. If you find yourself stuck in traffic or waiting for your daughter to get out of dance rehearsal, pick up your keyboard and type away.

Last but not least, let’s not forget about the actual call function of your smartphone. Save things like returning phone calls, making appointments, or calling prospective clients for times when you know you’ll be stuck in your car. If you’re waiting in the car line at your kids’ school every afternoon for 15 minutes, use that time to make your calls.

Once you get into the habit of identifying and using those little pockets of downtime and turn them into productive time with your phone, you’ll be surprised how much you can get done on that little device.

Put it to good use and free up some of your time to work on the important stuff or take a little extra time off to do the things you enjoy doing with the people you love.
