SHARING IS CARING

Steps to Help You Stop Overthinking Everything

One of the biggest problems, when you are trying to be creative, is that you are just thinking too much. If you stop obsessing about the project, or problem, you may find you suddenly get those flashes of thoughts that provide you with your solution.

Sometimes when you dwell on a problem you limit your thought process. Instead of letting your mind wander you subconsciously set boundaries. The end result is that you become stuck and run out of ideas.

The best way to overcome this is to stop any paths of resistance. Allow yourself the opportunity to think outside of the box. Don’t immediately search for a solution that seems sensible. Instead, look for something out of the ordinary.

When you do this you are allowing your creative juices to roam freely. Don’t always look for the cut and dry solution. Look at the problem from all angles and let your mind wander.

How many times have you been totally stuck on a project? No matter what you did nothing worked. You finally give up in frustration and walk away. When you return you find the solution within minutes! This is what can happen when you stop overthinking things.

It can also help to approach things from a different point of view. If you need to write a short story for an assignment. Don’t worry about how to write it to get an A. Instead, focus on writing a story that will wow your teacher and your fellow students.

Taking pressure off of yourself is another important step in increasing your creativity. The minute you add pressure or a deadline to something important, it immediately becomes harder to achieve.

One way to avoid overthinking is by planning out your project and how you are going to tackle it. If your project is going to require a ton of research and then writing, break this down into segments.

Work on the research portion first. Then once you have all your notes in place you can then start the writing process. Again, don’t expect to write a perfect first copy. Let your thoughts and ideas flow and just get them all down on paper.

Once your first draft is completed you can begin to rewrite and edit your copy. Continue this process until you are satisfied with your results.

By not overthinking, planning, and using a step-by-step process you can really unleash your creative talent on the world.
