The Best Way to Create a Vision for the Life You Want
Have you ever felt like you were just wandering throughout life? As though you didn’t have a very clear idea of what you were doing or where you were going. Well that may be because of a lack of vision. Vision is an important part of overall success and achievement.
Having a clear and firm vision acts as the foundation upon which you can accomplish your goals and achieve your dreams. Clear and effective visions tend to correspond with our deepest passions and core values in addition to outlining what we want out of life. But there are other specific benefits that having a vision can provide in your life.
Establishing a vision for your life essentially establishes the ‘why’ for your life. Purpose will give you the drive to keep working towards your goals when you are faced with obstacles and challenges along the way. Without vision you are kind of just going through the motions. With visions, everything you do is for a specific reason, so nothing is done in vain.
There is something about having a sense of purpose that motivates, and that is what vision offers you. When you know what you want and why you want it, your drive to see those things come into fruition becomes stronger. There becomes this inner passion that encourages you to continue working towards what you want. You will naturally become a person of action that takes bold steps forward in the pursuit of their dreams. s
A clear vision offers clarity regarding next steps. When you know what you want and why you want it, you are in a better position to establish SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time bound) goals that will help you reach your destination. A lack of vision of the other hand either leads to vague goals that do little to move you forward or unclear goals that cause more confusion than leadership.
Vision gives you a clear end goal to work towards. Without vision, you are left with confusion which often leads to hesitation and indecision. But having an end target to work towards helps you better formulate goals that will get you where you want to be. The target provides a stopping point because you will clearly know when you’ve reached it. Then you are free to set a new vision, establish a new target, and outline new goals so you can continually grow and mature as an individual.
There is nothing quite like the fear that comes with not knowing what to do next. Failing to have a vision in place creates the conditions that will allow this exact type of thing to happen. However, the clarity and motivation that comes with a clear vision becomes the courage needed to take the necessary risks in order to make progress towards that end goal. When you understand what you want, why you want it, and the path that you need to take in order to get there you can become an unstoppable force in your own life.
Basically, you need a vision if you want to have a clear direction in your life. Instead of wasting time doing what you think you should be doing or following what you see others doing, it is valuable to take time for yourself to really outline what you want from your life.
Consider questions such as:
“What do I want to do?”
“Who do I want to become?”
“Where do I want to be?”
Then develop a vision for your future based off of your answers to those questions, being sure to consider your passions and core values as you do this. You will then create a vision that you can clearly work towards, and you’ll find that your efforts will get you there in a matter of no time.
